thanks Darren,

<blockquote>"do you find yourself developing a new style, in order to get the best from it?"</blockquote>

good question - I think for it was that looping unlocked a 'latent style' that I'd wanted to do all along, but couldn't by any conventional means. I went the route of tapping/slapping for a while, but found that the level of focus on dexterity was distracting me from what I really wanted to play, which was tunes...

Over the years, my playing has certainly evolved, just as I'd hope it would've done in the 15 years I've been experimenting with looping-type ideas, and there are certainly things I do that first became apparent as possibilities with the loop device rather than just things I could hear in my head anyway that the looper made possible...

Hi Steve

Wonderful stuff. I haven't played with any looping equipment before... do you find yourself developing a new style, in order to get the best from it?

I loved the Don't Stop Believin' vid too... I could play that middle section all day long. It's beautifully soothing. :) Reminds me, a little, of some of the early 'Yes' recordings...

I play bass (and sing) myself… did session work etc. in the late 80s and early 90s… tried to get that ever-elusive deal with several bands back then. Fame and riches didn’t beckon but I’ve learnt to be philosophical about these things. :) To be honest, I’m glad it turned out the way it did… I’ve been free to explore many other creative avenues.

I don’t play live any more apart from the odd gig here and there… but I have recently started to record some of the music that’s been percolating in my head for the last few years. A few months ago, I bought a Macbook and Logic and some other studio bits and pieces… amazing what you can get for your money and even more amazing that you can now do it all on your desktop! A far cry from the pre-digital days.

Anyway, if you’re interested and you have the time, I have new site… which includes a recently finished instrumental ‘Salvador Dali’:

http://www.darren-goldsmith.co.uk

It’s essentially a depository for my creative endeavours… artwork, music, writing. Only a few bits present at the moment but I’ll add stuff as and when…

Thanks for showing the Looperlative vid… and thanks for the explanation.

Cheers,

Darren.
