I grabbed the Calamateur tracks previously and it's good stuff, even if you are an unbeliever.

I was going to mention the Joe Webb EP. I've been listening to that a lot and may well buy their album.

Brad Sucks is good too.

Thanks to Lobelia and Steve for giving away so much of their music. I've bought a couple of CDs at the gigs I've been to.

So do people donate if they can have the music for free? It seems that people are getting used to getting free music these days, although much of it illegally. I hope it works out for the artists.

I would say my favorite free album release of late is Out of It by Brad Sucks:

"Certain Death" is definitely a single-worthy song, IMHO.

One (or indeed two) of my favourite free-to-download albums are by the (SF) Bay Area band Less, who've been described as a cross between Tool and Soundgarden.

The music is dark, brooding, engaging, upbeat, complex

Their first two albums "Piano Wire Smile" and "Cover, Protective, Individual" are amazing albums. Cover, ... is more acoustic than its predecessor.

Download at http://www.firecodecore.com/less/

I can't remember how I stumbled upon them but they've become firm favourites at Saunders Metal Towers.

Fave free download album? Hmmm, well I suspect that it's going to be Lo's when all the tracks are released but since that's a few weeks yet I'd suggest checking out the free 5 track EP from Jo Webb and the Dirty Hands called "Greatest Hits"

http://www.jowebb.com/music/music/greatesthits/

You might know some of the titles... Smoke on the Water, Bohemian Rhapsody, Stairway to Heaven, Purple Rain and Master of Puppets but NO IT'S NOT A COVERS ALBUM. They're all original songs that just happen to have some familiar names!!

It's on a free if you like, donate if you want basis too. It's all quality power pop with a bit or rock sensibility thrown in. If you like, then their proper debut album, Acrobat, is due out in April some time. And do catch them live if you can. Great guys and great fun to watch. Devillishly catchy tunes too.

I'm also just getting to know a load of "self-determined pricing" tracks from Jane Siberry which are worth checking out at her online store:
